ORLANDO, FL, April 29 – 3D perception, Inc. (“3DP”) today announced delivery of two of 3DP’s Northstar™ immersive visual display systems for the US Air Force Test Pilot Training School (USAF TPS) at Edwards Air Force Base in Southern California’s Mojave Desert.

In late March, 3DP delivered and installed the two Draco™ Northstar mini-dome systems. These high-resolution devices feature a 1.05 m / 3.4 ft radius spherical screen and a seamless 160° vertical and 60° horizontal field of view, and feature a dedicated heads-up display or “HUD.” Draco domes are 3DP’s small footprint automatically aligning VDS concept, ideal for fast-jet applications, which can be installed in standard office spaces.

“We use these simulators to reinforce concepts taught in the classroom before our students go fly their flight test instructional events,” said Dr. Christopher Cotting, PhD Master Instructor of Flying Qualities at the USAF TPS. “Proper immersion in a simulation environment is key, especially for Handling Qualities education and testing. We also use these simulators to provide synthetic vision for a ground station to fly our remotely piloted aircraft. 3D perception’s Northstar visual display system provides the immersion we require to meet our educational learning objectives and our operational requirements for remotely piloted aircraft.”

USAF Test Pilot School
The mission of the USAF Test Pilot School is to produce highly adaptive, critical-thinking flight test professionals to lead and conduct full-spectrum test and evaluation of aerospace weapon systems. Performing this mission allows the school to fulfill the vision of being the world’s premiere educational and training center of excellence for theoretical and applied flight test engineering.

In: Press Release

ORLANDO, FL, April 28 – 3D perception, Inc. (“3DP”) today announced further deliveries of their Northstar™ immersive visual displays for CAE-built UH-72A Lakota Flight Training Devices (FTDs). In April, 3DP delivered two systems to the U.S. Army Aviation Center of Excellence (USAACE) in Fort Rucker, Alabama. Since 2013, this totals three deliveries to Fort Rucker and two to the Western ARNG Aviation Training Site (WAATS) near Tucson, Arizona.

The UH-72A FTD features 3DP’s Northstar visual display system (VDS) with a wide 200-degree by 75-degree field-of-view. The completely seamless VDS is automatically aligned and color calibrated via sensors embedded in the screen, expediting and simplifying maintenance procedures.

The UH-72A FTD features a helicopter specific cockpit with the fidelity and performance of a full-flight simulator without the full motion. CAE’s next-generation Medallion-6000 image generator immerses pilots in a high-fidelity synthetic training environment.

The UH-72A FTDs for the U.S. Army are fielded with the CAE-developed Common Database (CDB), enhancing the Army’s ability to leverage existing U.S. Government-owned databases to support their helicopter training requirements.

The CAE-built UH-72A flight training devices have been formally accredited by USAACE to certify that the devices can be used to train UH-72A rated crew members in the performance of critical training tasks. The accreditation determines the accuracy and realism of the simulation, and CAE’s UH-72A FTDs have surpassed the performance metrics established for this level of training device, thus allowing the Army to accomplish more training tasks in the UH-72A training devices than originally anticipated.

The UH-72A Lakota Helicopter
Developed by Airbus Group, the UH-72A Lakota is the U.S. Army’s multi-role light utility helicopter. The UH-72A Lakota entered service for the U.S. Army and National Guard beginning in 2007 and more than 300 helicopters have been delivered. The Army and National Guard use the UH-72A Lakota for a range of domestic missions, including homeland security, medical evacuation, drug interdiction, disaster relief and general utility support.

3DP’s Northstar Simulation Display System
3D perception’s advanced Northstar™ visual display solution combines an advanced rack-mount multi-projector display processor, nBox™, with 3DP Certified Projectors™ and image auto-alignment technologies in the form of Aurora™ sensor-instrumented smart screens, or StarScan™, a screen-independent, precision 3D scanner and imager. ASKER, Norway, December 4, 2014 – 3D perception AS (“3DP”), today announced that the aircraft manufacturer Pilatus Aircraft Ltd., for whom 3DP is a supplier of display solutions for its flight simulators for the Indian Air Force, recently received final acceptance for the first Full Mission flight Simulator (FMS) at the Air Force Academy at Dundigal, India.

Indian newspaper, The Hindu, recently described the simulator:

“As one sits in the cockpit of a Pilatus aircraft in the simulator, which generates a real-life like environment, it is just a matter of seconds before the pilot goes from being in a room to flying the trainer aircraft. The virtual arena is complete with sensitive graphic screens to give trainees a ‘real’ experience, before they actually fly one of the 40 aerial machines in the Air Force Academy at Dundigal.”

The complete article from The Hindu can be found here:

The display solution delivered by 3DP consists of simulation grade, precision digital projectors, 3DP’s display processor, 3DP’s instrumented screen elements, as well as night scenario capabilities, multi-channel automatic image alignment and color calibration. This installation is the first in a series of simulators and 3DP is looking forward putting the rest of the visual display systems into operation in the near future.

3DP’s advanced Northstar™ visual display solution combines an advanced rack-mount multi-projector display processor, nBox™, with 3DP Certified Projectors™ and image auto-alignment technologies in the form of Aurora™ sensor-instrumented smart screens, or StarScan™, a screen-independent, precision 3D scanner and imager. Northstar is Image Generator (IG) independent and requires no software on or modification to the users IG.

ORLANDO, FL, December 1, 2014 – 3D perception, Inc. (“3DP”), today announced the delivery of a Northstar™ immersive visual display to the US Naval Air Warfare Center Training Systems Division (NAWCTSD) under an SBIR Phase III contract to AVT Simulation.
The newly delivered system is an upgrade to an older generation 3DP display system, and includes nBox™, 3DP’s latest generation display processor, StarScan™ high-resolution autocalibration scanner, and four CompactView™ WQ65L high-resolution LED WQXGA projectors. The display is unique in that it includes a central “area-of-interest” which features a much higher pixel-density than the lateral peripheral areas. This area is considered near eye-limiting resolution – in that the human eye cannot distinguish pixilation.NAWCTSD Visual System Engineer, David Wieselthier said, “Our older 3DP system was a solid performer – so when it came time to upgrade our demo lab to the latest technology, we were glad to have 3DP come back. Our demo lab now has a very unique, high resolution display and the StarScan™ autocalibration system will come in handy down the road as we often reconfigure the lab to test out new projectors.”3DP’s Northstar Simulation Display System
