Orlando, FL, 28 November 2017 – 3D perception Inc. (3DP) today announced they have delivered their Northstar™ Visual Display System to Lockheed Martin Rotary and Mission Systems (Lockheed Martin) and completed factory acceptance in support of the UK Military Flight Training System (UK MFTS) fixed wing programme for the UK Ministry of Defense. The display will support a Beechcraft T-6C flight training device and will be delivered, ready for training, in 2018 to the UK’s RAF Station in Valley, Wales.

3D perception was selected for this program due to their ability to configure and deliver their Northstar solution with extreme resolution and a large field of view. The simulator fits within a 20 x 20 ft. footprint and features a 270° horizontal x 120° vertical field of view dome screen. The system incorporates 13 high-brightness WQXGA (2560 x 1600) resolution projectors with anti-smearing technology to optimize image clarity during fast manoeuvres. 3DP’s Aurora™ auto-aligning instrumented screen features embedded sensors called WarpSync™ and ChromaSync™. These sensors detect the alignment and quality of projector images, communicate with 3DP’s display processor, nBox™, which then automatically makes precision adjustments to geometry, edge blending, color, and intensity providing a seamless image and an extremely high-resolution pilot view. The light-tight, enclosed system supports training with night vision goggles aided in part by 3DP’s advanced Dynamic Optical Blenders™ which optimize night-time scenarios.

“Working with 3D perception has been really good,” said Lockheed Martin Subcontracts Program Manager Michael Percival. “Their system delivered on all requirements and they continue to support us through our integration process.”
