3D perception Awarded Air Force Simulator Visual Display System Contract

Company to Deliver Innovative “Draco” Systems to Multiple Bases

Orlando, FL USA 29 Nov 2021 – 3D perception, Inc. (“3DP”) has been awarded a contract to supply their Draco™ fast jet mini-dome simulator display systems by the U.S. Air Force Test Center (AFTC) under the Air Force Materiel Command for the Air Force Joint Simulation Environment (JSE) for the service’s 4th and 5th generation aircraft, such as F-16 and F-35. 3D perception was selected to supply a minimum of 4 and up to 6 immersive Visual Display Systems (VDS) by the 412th Air Wing’s Electronic Warfare Group at Edwards Air Force Base, California, in support of the Threat and Friendly/Virtual Air Threat (TAF/VAT) JSE.

Earlier this year, the Air Force published a call to industry seeking white papers proposing “innovative solutions with regard to the fidelity and Field-Of-View (FOV) of the proposed VDS,” and “consider the human factor relationship or the physical relationship of the primary components of the simulator,” calling out the importance of retaining “the physical relationships of the pilot eye.”

3DP’s Draco line of mini-dome simulator displays for fast-jet applications are high-fidelity, reconfigurable systems designed for rapid delivery, installation, and relocation. Powered by 3DP’s Northstar™ technologies, Draco is a completely integrated solution including mechanical structure, screen, projectors, and display processing for image warp, blend, and color balancing all under a unified user interface. The Draco 240+ model selected for this program has a 240° horizontal by 150° vertical field of view and features:

  • Enhanced pilot immersion via dynamic eye point
  • Motorized height adjustment system supporting interchangeable cockpits
  • Seamless image through continuous time-of-day transitions and NVG scenes via automated dynamic electronic-optical hybrid blending
  • A compact 11 x 10 ft footprint, allowing multiple units to fit in a standard office or classroom
  • Solid-state image auto-alignment and calibration technology
  • Image Generator and projector independence for ease of integration and future-proofing

3D perception will deliver Draco systems to Edwards, Nellis, and Wright-Patterson Air Force Bases beginning in early 2022. The company is showcasing a demonstrator of the Draco 240+ system from Nov 29th to Dec 2nd in Orlando, Florida at I/ITSEC, the world’s largest modeling, simulation, and training conference.
